Preity Zinta on Entering Politics: “Visiting Temples Doesn’t Mean I’m Joining BJP”

Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Preity Zinta has firmly denied recent rumors suggesting that she is entering politics or aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The speculation began after Zinta was seen visiting multiple temples across northern India, with some social media users and political commentators interpreting her spiritual visits as a sign of an impending political debut.

The actress, best known for her roles in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, and Dil Chahta Hai, took to social media on Tuesday to address the swirling reports. In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote:

“Just because I visited a few temples does not mean I’m joining politics or aligning with any political party. Faith is personal. Please don’t mix religion with politics.”

Preity’s temple visits included stops at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand, and the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu. Photos of her with local BJP leaders during these visits were widely circulated online, fueling the assumption that she was preparing to step into public life ahead of the 2029 general elections.

However, Zinta clarified that her recent temple tour was spiritual in nature and had no political motives. Sources close to the actress stated that she undertook the journey as a “personal pilgrimage” to seek blessings after a challenging few months both professionally and personally.

Preity Zinta has previously stayed away from political affiliations, choosing instead to focus on her film career, IPL team co-ownership (Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings), and charitable initiatives through her foundation.

Speaking to a news portal, a close associate of Zinta said, “Preity is a deeply spiritual person, but she’s also fiercely independent. She doesn’t like being dragged into political conversations, especially when there’s no basis to them.”

This is not the first time a Bollywood celebrity has been linked to politics following public religious appearances. In recent years, temple visits by stars like Kangana Ranaut and Akshay Kumar have triggered similar speculation, often followed by clarifying statements.

As the political climate in India becomes increasingly intertwined with celebrity culture, public figures like Zinta often find themselves at the center of rumors. For now, she seems focused on her production ventures and philanthropic work.

Preity concluded her post with a gentle reminder:

“Spirituality is not a campaign strategy. Let’s not turn everything into a political headline.”

Her fans have widely supported her statement, praising her for maintaining clarity and grace in the face of speculation.
